Typographic Brooklyn Bridge

Cameron Moll recently announced a new Kickstarter for a letterpress print of the Brooklyn Bridge constructed entirely from typography. Moll worked entirely in Adobe Illustrator to draw the artwork, and while some sections can be copied and pasted roughly 70-80% of the characters in the artwork were positioned, sized, and rotated one by one. Flat design vs realism: which side are you on?

Last year, flat design took over the world of digital design. The hallmarks of skeuomorphic design - embossed and bevel effects, 3D artificial textures, drop shadows and reflective shimmers - all but disappeared and were replaced with minimalist design, bold colours sharp edges and lines, simple typography and very little, if any at all, shadowing.

To highlight this design trend, interactive agency inTacto created this brilliant interactive infographic Flat Design vs Realism.The cool project also includes interactive game, in which users pick a side and then battle the enemy. We spoke to inTacto’s creative director Alejandro Lazos to find out more about the project.

Master Milkshakes

Fuman were asked to create a brand Identity for Master Milkshakes that included a hand-drawn character. The character needed to have a 50s retro vibe – something that would have a timeless feel and stand out from the crowd. Master Milkshakes wanted the brand and packaging look and feel to be fun and reminiscent of their target markets childhood ice-cream/milkshake memories.

Llun’s first project, Geometrical Puzzle is a minimalist design created by Turkish designer Efil Türk. The puzzle is completed by placing the shapes in the appropriate place and positions. Every piece is made of crystal epoxy resin created with the molding technique. Geometrical Puzzle is entirely handmade.

Landscape Light Installations by Barry Underwood

Drawing inspiration from early theatrical training, and influenced by methods of staged photography and set design, artist Barry Underwood (previously) transforms ordinary landscapes into something out of science fiction. The artist utilizes LED lights, luminescent material, and other photographic effects to create fleeting abstract landscapes that are influenced by both accidental and incidental light. He shares via his artist statement:

My artwork examines community and land-use in rural, suburban and urban sites. I created this series of installations by researching local agricultural, industrial, and recreational land-use. Curiosity about ecological and social history of specific places drives my work. By revealing the beauty and potential of an ordinary landscape an everyday scene is transformed into a memorable, visual experience. Each photograph image is a dialogue – the result of my direct encounter with nature and history. Inspired by land art, landscape photography and painting, as well as cinema, my images are both surreal and familiar.
